SPARE WHEELS
I picked up a "spare" set of stock TT wheels off eBAY for $100. A set of decent tires came with these wheels. I happened to have friends in the area, so they picked the wheels up for me in Las Vegas. The wheels needed plenty of work -- here are pictures of the front wheels before I did any work on them. YIKES.
But, the process is simple --- strip the paint, prep, and repaint. I prepaid for the NITTO Drag Radials on the rear, had Discount remove the old tires, slap them onto my normal wheels (since they had tred an my old tires were bald), and then I brought the wheels home and go them prepped and painted. Then DISCOUNT installed the NITTO's on them and I was ready to roll.
The first wheel I did didn't come out perfect. I guess there was still a bit of residual paint. I stripped them three times and did some light scuffing with a worn Scotch Pad, so I thought I did enough to get it all off. When the paint dried, it revealed some little imperfections, which I think was the result of the new paint reacting with the old. The 2nd wheel went off without a hitch.

I think these rough imperfections are from not getting the paint
completely removed
I like the results. I like the color and I like the polished outer rim. (Many do not like the color or polished rim, but it's fun to have them on for that ONCE IN A WHILE drive I'll do with them). The fronts are not completed yet. I plan on putting a set of winter tires on them for the rear during, of course, winter. I may end up painting them a different color to match my normal wheels. Not sure. Of course, it might be cool to paint them in the bronze and have them for the drag days to go along with the rears. I will also be having them balanced with sticky weights instead of the rim weights, just to keep it clean : )
