The "Shorter" Shifter
I did this little interior mod while I was having the tranny replaced so it made it really easy to just drop the shifter out and get it to a machine shop. Labor cost me $30. I got 1 1/2" shaved off the top. I like the length now, though 1/2 inch more would also be nice. Cutting another 1/2 inch will, however, start to compress the shift boot under the knob. I also replaced a boot underneath the external boot. It was cracked up quite a bit. I didn't like the length of the shifter before. It was way too long. Now you can give the car a nice quick shift. I replaced the original shifter (which I don't like either) with one from a 5-speed Altima. The numbers are all nice and clear, though you don't really need them, it looks better when they aren't all worn out.
The shorter shifter is on the left - on the right is a pic of my new ICHIBAHN Equipt series shift knob, and the new leather shift boot. I need to bore out a little more from the Equipt knob so it will sit lower.
