STREET VEHICLE OWNERS '
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RACE WIRES
INSTALLERS: please make sure vehicle owner receives this sheet.
The ignition wire set enclosed is designed and constructed to provide a full race engine with FULL OUTPUT from the ignition system (as well as EMI and RFI suppression also needed by production engines). This feature will also benefit your production or modified street engine, as the full output from your vehicle's ignition system will also be available to the engine.
However, race engin es are meticulously maintained, and never subjected to conditions a street engine will encounter over an extended period of time, and therefore, if you want these wires to last, you need take the following into account:
There is no industry standard for spark plug wire connectors and spark plugs. In recent years,'every vehicle manufacturer has become obsessed with using overly complicated, and often poorly designed, spark plug connectors on the wires originatly fitted to their production engines that are not only totally different to wires used by their competitor's on their engines, but also on other engines and year models they themselves manufacture. Some engine designs cause spark plug wire connectors to fail prematurely because of the hostile environment in which the connectors are located.
The same goes for spark plug manufacturers, who produce spark plugs with an assortment of porcelain insulator shapes and sizes, as well as differently shaped tops (nuts, ferrules) made from different metals that suit terminals used on some spark plug wires, but not those used on other spark plug wires. The result is that, over time on a street engine, terminals in spark plug connectors will sometimes seize, bond or become locked onto spark plug tops. Also, some spark plug tops and/or insulators cause connectors to attach too loosely. Please read removing and installing instructions enclosed.
In particular, spark plug wires used on some recent street engines which feature extended connectors to reach spark plugs situated in deep holes will need more attention than wires that don't use extended connectors. Race wires conducting full coil current can be more effected by moisture accumulation around the tips of their spark plug connectors than the original wires designed to-r-educe coilspark-current (for suppression) - particularly as-spark plug-gaps widen-dualo-hi-mileage-tip-wosion- in a rarely tuned street vehicle. A turbo engine can exacerbate this problem because of higher cylinder pressures.
Before fitting Magnecor Race Wires to spark plugs situated in deep holes, always ensure that holes are free of moisture and oil. It is not always easy to see moisture - oil is very obvious. If spark plugs have run in excess of 30,000 miles - replace them!
Although the ignition cable used for Magnecor Race Wires will not deteriorate with age or use, the same can't be said about the assortment of extended spark plug connectors if any of the following adverse conditions exist, or develop in the future:
1 Wires not fitted or removed correctly - see fitting instructions enclosed - contact us if there's a problem;
2. Moisture and/or oil has accumulated in un-drained spark plug holes - all extended connectors need to be vented,
therefore moisture will always accumulate if vehicle is used in areas where condensation forms over the engine;
3. Spark plugs are not identical in dimension to the original plugs, causing connector sealing and arcing problems;
4. Spark plug gaps have become excessive or plugs are failing, 'causing full coil output to find it easier to arc down
spark plug insulators or through (a pin hole will be burnt) the side of connectors covered in moisture and/or oil.
Indication of arcing (white tracks) will be evident around bottom connector seals. A pin hole can be detected with close inspection.
Magnecor makes every effort to overcome difficulties caused by poor production engine and spark plug connector design. Wherever possible, substitute spark plug connectors (to help alleviate known problems caused by the original connectors) will be fitted to Magnecor Race Wires. However, we cannot fully overcome poor engine design and/or lack of maintenance. Moisture needs to be removed from un-drained spark plug holes from time to time. Oil leaks necessitate repairs.
Always retain your old wires. If at any time in the future you discover a spark plug connector is damaged by any of the above problems, you can sent it to us for rep,4ir or replacement, and use an old wire in place of a wire sent for repair or replacement.
